The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that Phoenix-based Papa John's Salad and Produce has recalled one of its salads in fears of possibility for salads to contain listeria. Listeria, a dangerous genus of bacteria, can cause infection to people who consume it and can be lethal in case of people with compromised immune system. The infected person develops a condition called listeriosis. The infection can cause fatality in some cases.
The recent recall has been announced for Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing that was found to contain sesame seeds that were also recalled during a recent SunOpta sunflower kernel recall expansion. There is no incidence of illness reported from the salads, which have been sold in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Oregon and Wyoming. The consumers have been advised to return or discard if they have bought the recalled products by the company.
According to FDA, the company is coordinating with the authority and local grocers to remove these salads from shelves of stores, which are Albertsons, Safeway, Bashas' and Food 4 Less. The company is recalling 373 pounds of salads with chicken products that may contain Listeria monocytogenes from various stores. The products announced for recall were produced from May 10 through May 17, 2016.
In detail, products that are to be recalled are 7.5-oz, plastic bags of Signature Café Citrus Kale Salad with Chicken – Dress with Lemon, Salt and Pepper that have May 17 through May 24, 2016 written on them as use by dates. The packages will hold the following UPC code of 2113008148. Consumers are supposed to be careful while purchasing products, they are advised to check their salads UPC and sell by date to identify if a product falls within the recalled products.
