NASA Plans to Launch Solar Probe in 2018

NASA has announced Solar Plus Probe which will be checking for risk of any major ‘solar event’ that can impact our planet. The probe will be launched in 2018 and will stay nearly four million miles from solar surface. The probe will help scientists to predict and prepare for any major solar event. It will be an interesting and difficult mission as no spacecraft has worked that close to the Sun. Astronomers are expecting to gather interesting information about Sun’s corona.

NASA mulling plan to add crew to SLS’ debut launch

NASA announced on Friday that it might take around a month for it to determine whether it would be feasible to put two astronauts on board the first test flight of Space Launch System (SLS), which is scheduled to make its maiden launch late next year.

The first test flight of the SLS rocket, dubbed Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1), is currently slated to send an unmanned Orion capsule into the deep space. A crewed mission, under the existing plan, will fly aboard the SLS/Orion system on the EM-2 mission sometime in 2021.

NASA reports discovery of Seven Earth-sized exoplanets

NASA discovers 7 Earth-sized exoplanets

More than half a dozen Earth-sized planets have been discovered orbiting the same star forty light-years away from Earth, U.S. space agency NASA announced at a news conference iin Washington on Wednesday (Feb. 22).

This discovery outside of our solar system is rare because the planets have the winning combination of being similar in size to Earth and being all temperate, meaning they could have water on their surfaces and potentially support life.

NASA remains optimistic about Juno spacecraft’s current 53-day orbit

NASA scientists remain optimistic that the decision to keep the Juno spacecraft in its current 53-day orbit of Jupiter for the remainder of its mission will yield positive and spectacular results.

The U.S. government-run space agency recently announced that Juno will remain in its current, long orbital period instead of shifting to previously planned 14-day orbit. The decision followed a Juno engine malfunction that occurred in October 2016.
