Cassini Sends Images of Saturn and Moons as Holiday Gift

Cassini spacecraft

This Holiday season, Cassini spacecraft has also given us a gift by sending images of Saturn and its two moons, Titan and Enceladus, on earth. The images of the moons are `dressed and dazzling'.

Saturn and its two moons, Titan and Enceladus, said, "During this, our tenth holiday season at Saturn, we hope that these images from Cassini remind everyone the world over of the significance of our discoveries in exploring such a remote and beautiful planetary system".

Britain to have its Own Space Weather Center by Next Year

Britain to have its Own Space Weather Center by Next Year

Britain will have its own space-weather centre for predicting the arrival of solar 'super-storms' by next year. The government is likely to make the announcement today. This setting up of the space weather center will immediately inform GPS satellites of the disasters and they will trigger electricity blackouts across whole cities to save lives of millions of people.

Major solar storms are the result of the coronal mass ejections that are caused when billions of tons of highly energetic particles are explosively released from the Sun's outer atmosphere or corona.

Over 200,000 People Register to Live on Red Planet

It has been recently announced by the Bans Lansdorp, CEO of the Mars One Foundation that 200,000 people have applied to live on Mars. According to a new report, scientists have started making plans to accomplish their project by taking people to the Red Planet. Despite of the fact that if they will go, they will not be able to come back to Earth, lakhs of people have applied to settle on the Red Planet.

Periods of High and Low Solar Activity has not Influenced Climate Change

Periods of High and Low Solar Activity has not Influenced Climate Change

A number of studies are taking place with regard to climate change. It has been seen that average temperature on Earth has changed over past thousand years. Solar activities have been linked with climate change.

Recently, a study has been carried out by a group of researchers from the University of Edinburgh in which it has been found that variations in heat from the sun has not influenced climate change.

Astronomers Discover New Population of Exploding Stars

Astronomers Discover New Population of Exploding Stars

A new population of exploding stars has been discovered by astronomers. These stars have the capability of switching off their radio transmissions before collapsing into a Black Hole.

These exploding stars make use of all their energy to release one last strong beam of extremely energetic radiation. This is called as a gamma-ray burst and is released before their death.

Milky Way Has Four Spiral Arms Instead of Two, Confirms New Research

Milky Way Has Four Spiral Arms Instead of Two, Confirms New Research

A new study has come up with findings to suggest that our Milky Way has four arms than previously thought two. The 12-year study has been published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

The researchers predicted four arms in Milky Way in 1950s. But after studying the Spitzer Space Telescope in 2008, they started believing that it has only two arms.

Red MSX Source (RMS) survey led by University of Leeds astronomers conducted the 12-year-long study.

Scientists Discover Enormous Fountains on Jupiter’s Moon Europa

According to a new report, scientists have declared Europa as the best place to find alien life in the Solar System. Scientists have captured some images of water sprouting out of Europa, Jupiter's icy moon, with the help of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Researchers presented this research at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California.

Jupiter-Bound Juno Spacecraft Recorded Video of Earth-Moon System during High-Speed Flyby

Jupiter-Bound-Juno-Spacecraft

A video of the Earth-moon system has been recorded by NASA's Jupiter-bound Juno spacecraft at the time of high-speed flyby in October. The video reveals about an extraordinary view of the two worlds that are bounded in a cosmic dance against the dark chasm of space.

These images were taken by a low-resolution camera that is mounted at the end of one of three solar array wings of the Juno spacecraft.

Mars Curiosity Finds 3.7–Billion-Year-Old Lake

Giving a clue that Mars could have supported life, NASA's Mars Curiosity has found a 3.7 billion year old lake. While revealing the details about their finding, scientists were of the view that the lake is younger than they considerations.

Moreover, the lake has given them a strong clue that life could have once existed on Mars. NASA's Curiosity lead scientist John Grotzinger has affirmed that the lake is Earth-like and is 30 miles in length and around three miles in width.

Researchers Find Most Distant Orbiting Planet around its Star

Researchers Find Most Distant Orbiting Planet around its Star

A research has taken place by a group of researchers from University of Arizona. As per them, they have come across a giant planet and have found the same at the place, where it should not be present.

This has led study researchers to wonder about the formation of planetary system. Lead researcher Vanessa Bailey has affirmed that the planet has been orbiting its star and that too at massive distance.

The planet named as HD 106906 b is said to be 10 times bigger than the mass of Jupiter. The astronomers were of the view that nothing of such exists in our solar system.
