Kepler Finds 219 Exoplanets and 10 out of them could be habitable: NASA

A team of astronomers working with Kepler Space telescope has found 219 new exoplanets. NASA released a list of 219 exoplanets discovered by astronomers over a period of four years using Kepler Space Telescope. 10 exoplanets among the latest list are in the ‘Goldilocks’ zone and their size is comparable to that of our planet Earth. These planets can support water in liquid form on their surface as they orbit at a suitable distance from their host star. Presence of water in liquid form is one of the main conditions for any exoplanet to support life.

NASA Plans Mission to Asteroid Worth $10,000 quadrillion worth of Minerals

NASA has approved two interesting missions and one of them will reach an asteroid valued by astronomers at $10,000 quadrillion, due to expensive mineral reserves on that asteroid. NASA is planning to launch missions known as Lucy and Psyche in year 2021 and 2023 to explore far regions in space. The giant asteroid could also provide valuable clues about early days and formation of solar system. The giant metal asteroid named 16 Psyche will be interesting for astronomers and NASA is working hard to make this mission a success.

NASA Engineers Planning to Build Ice House on Mars: Report

NASA Engineers Planning to Build Ice House on Mars: Report

NASA engineers are planning to build ice house on Mars as per suggestions shared by NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Planet Mars will be challenging mission for NASA and it would be interesting to see what solutions scientific community can offer to astronauts to stay safely on Mars. The Red Planet has extreme temperatures and the atmosphere doesn’t provide adequate protection from high intensity radiation on Mars. Scientists at NASA have suggested Ice house as an effective technique for astronauts to stay on Mars.

Refueling Mission Spacecraft Project Wins NASA Approval with $127 Million Payment

NASA has selected a California-based company for Refueling Mission Spacecraft project which could be ready within three years. California-based space technology company Space Systems/Loral will setup a robotic space station which will refuel satellites in orbit. NASA has awarded $127 million contract for Restore-L Spacecraft Bus that will work like a traveling gas station. The project will help satellite missions to run for longer period as they will be refueled by Restore-L Spacecraft Bus.

Blue colored noctilucent ice clouds noticed over Antarctica by NASA AIM

NASA Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) has recorded blue noctilucent ice clouds over Antarctica and they have been noticed much earlier this year. The Noctilucent clouds are the highest clouds, generally found in mesosphere layer of atmosphere. These clouds feature ice crystals and when they reflect sunlight, they produce bright blue color. The Noctilucent clouds are noticed over South Pole each year but this year, they have appeared earlier than their usual time.

NASA's Cassini discovers largest mountain on Saturn's Moon Titan

Scientists working on NASA's Cassini mission have found the tallest peak on Titan, the Saturn's largest moon. The tallest mountain is about 3,337 meters high. The highest point on Titan is within a trio of mountainous ridges called the Mithrim Montes, and most of the tallest mountains on this moon are closer to equator.

SpaceX Tests Both Parachutes and Engines that Aided Landing Systems

SpaceX signed contract with NASA to start commercial spacecraft years ago and is now progressing towards its goal. Recently, NASA released a video showing a parachute system completing a landing test designed by SpaceX in completion of its final tests required by NASA’s commercial crew program (CCP).

SpaceX Uses Parachute for Safe Landing from Space

The SpaceX has recently tested a program which involves use of large parachutes to bring astronauts back to earth from space. The test was made public through a video published by NASA, which showed four large parachutes positioning and lowering a mock spacecraft underneath. The NASA joined hands with SpaceX and Boeing to make it possible for astronauts to commute to and from the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA Releases New Composite Image of Saturn’s Moon Titan

American space agency NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has sent back home some amazing photos of Saturn’s largest moon titan. The images instead of the hazy atmosphere show Titan’s surface clearly.

The composite image shows the area of Titan that faces towards Saturn. It also shows the dark, dune-filled regions of Fensal to the north and Aztlan to the south, which together form the shape of a sideways letter H.

NASA Partners with FWS to Test Drones’ Capability to Detect Forest Fires at Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge

On Tuesday, NASA announced that it along with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service will assess that whether or not small unmanned aerial systems are able to identify forest fires at the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.

The project, which is being carried out in the support of the UAS Integration in the National Airspace System project of the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, will be headed by Langley Research Center.
