Antarctica’s Ross Sea will be World’s Largest Marine Reserve after Multinational Agreement

Frozen continent Antarctica’s Ross Sea area has became the world’s largest protected marine area, thanks to a multi-national agreement that aims to preserve one of the most immaculate ecosystems on our planet.

The proposed marine reserve covers an area roughly twice the size of Texas. More precisely, it covers more than 1.55 million sq. kilometers, with nearly three-quarters of it being covered by a blanket ban on commercial fishing. In the remaining area, commercial fishing is allowed with some stipulations.
