4A---Russia isn’t creating a Terminator: Deputy PM Dmitryi Rogozin claims

In wake of reports that President Vladimir Putin’s administration is training a ‘robot army’ to shoot using guns with both hands, Russia has denied that the Terminator-like army would jeopardize humans.

In December last year, reports emerged that the android-based robots known as Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research (FEDOR) were being trained for exploring space. But, new reports suggested that robots are being trained to shoot guns.

Russian cargo spacecraft destroyed in failed launch

An unmanned Russian cargo spacecraft failed to reach orbit and fell back to Earth shortly after being launched toward the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday, Dec. 1, Russian federal space agency Roscosmos confirmed.

Roscosmos officials said that the Progress 65 freighter was launched atop a Soyuz-U rocket at 9:51 a.m. EST or 1451 GMT yesterday from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Around 6 minutes into the flight, mission controllers stopped receiving signal from the freighter and radar stations were unable to spot on its planned orbit.

Antarctica’s Ross Sea will be World’s Largest Marine Reserve after Multinational Agreement

Frozen continent Antarctica’s Ross Sea area has became the world’s largest protected marine area, thanks to a multi-national agreement that aims to preserve one of the most immaculate ecosystems on our planet.

The proposed marine reserve covers an area roughly twice the size of Texas. More precisely, it covers more than 1.55 million sq. kilometers, with nearly three-quarters of it being covered by a blanket ban on commercial fishing. In the remaining area, commercial fishing is allowed with some stipulations.

Polar bears circling Arctic outpost of Russian scientists

A team of five Russian researchers shared that their outpost on Troynoy Island is being surrounded by around 10 adult polar bears and their cubs. In this situation, it is not safe for them to leave the outpost.

The researchers said that a female polar bear spends nights outside the station. In fact, the team no more has flares with them and polar bears have also killed one of their dogs. It has become quite difficult for them to perform meteorological observations.

US astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts safely return to earth from ISS

Three crew members from the International Space Station have returned after completion of their mission on Wednesday. Station commander Jeff Williams from NASA and flight engineers Alexey Ovchinin and Oleg Skripochka from Russia's space agency started from the station at 5:51 p.m. EDT.

Their Russian Soyuz capsule made its parachute landing near the Kazakhstan city Zhezkazgan at 7:13 am local time on Wednesday. With this mission, Williams, 58, has completed 534 days in orbit, a record no other astronaut has made in the US history and is 14th in the world.

Two reasons that will make Perseid Meteor Shower to put a spectacular show

Perseid meteor shower is already known to be the best meteor shower of the year. This year, the meteor shower to take place in the night sky later this week would be even better than previous times.

Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office has estimated that meteor rates could increase to 200 meteors per hour in perfect conditions. The Perseid meteor shower peak will take place through the night of August 11 and 12, but some meteors would be visible on the nights before and after.

This is How We Can Reach Alpha Centauri in Just Two Decades

Russian entrepreneur and physicist Yuri Milner has an interesting plan to explore the cosmos with probes far smaller compared to spacecraft we use today for space missions. Milner aims to hunt for space objects in another star system: Alpha Centauri.

During an event, Milner and everyone’s favorite astrophysicist Stephen Hawking disclosed their plan to launch many tiny spacecrafts towards the Alpha Centauri star system. The $100 million initiative has been named ‘Breakthrough Starshot’. It will be the first time when humans attempt to reach our neighboring star system.
