Norway to boost fortification of Global Seed Vault

Norway is preparing to boost the flood defense of its Global Seed Vault, the seed bank designed to preserve the world’s crops and plants in the case of a global disaster, after water seeped into the storage facility last year.

The Global Seed Vault is situated deep inside a mountain on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

Last year, high temperatures caused the permafrost to melt, which sent water into the facility’s access tunnel.

Norway becomes first country to commit to zero deforestation policy

Norway has declared a complete ban on deforestation, and with this it has become the first nation to commit to a zero deforestation policy.

EcoWatch reported that the products contributing to deforestation won’t be used countrywide. The pledge has come a couple of years after the nation issued a joint declaration along with Germany and Britain at the UN Climate Summit promising to endorse national commitments that take forward deforestation free supply chains, such as via public procurement policies to continuously source commodities like palm oil, timber, soy, and beef.
