Robot successfully performs dental surgery in China

Marking robotic technology’s continual progression in the field of medical science, a robot successfully implanted a pair of teeth into a female patient’s mouth all on its own in China.

The oral surgery, in which two 3D-printed teeth were implanted in a woman’s mouth, took place in Xian, Shaanxi. The whole procedure took an hour, and no human being took an active role in it.

The robot implanted the teeth into the patient’s mouth with a margin of error of just 0.2 to 0.3mm, which is standard with human surgeons.

The machinery, which presents several benefits over human surgeons, was designed and developed by a team of researchers from Beihang University and Fourth Military Medical University.

The researchers who developed the robot expressed hope that it could help in solving the problem of shortage of dentists in mainland China.
